Recycling has picked up over the past several decades and continues to build traction in every state thanks to recycling initiatives, legislation, and the efforts of nonprofit organizations.
\n\n
According to the EPA, the national recycling rate has increased from about 10% in 1985 to about 35% in 2012. It has steadily increased year after year due to advancements in recycling technology and the realization that recycling has a major economic impact. Oh…not to mention the huge environmental benefit!
\n\n
\n
A good way to quickly dispose of heavy or bulky waste in a way that is environmentally responsible is through the use of a dumpster.
\n\n
Depending on the type of waste processing facilities near you, you may be able to save money (and the environment) by 'clean' loading your dumpster with only one type of debris, such as asphalt roofing shingles, concrete, or drywall.
\n\n
Learn more about dumpster rentals:
\n\n
\n\t
Find the right size dumpster for your specific needs
\n\t
Learn how dumspter pricing works
\n\t
Compare dumpster rental prices in your area
\n
\n\n
\n

\nAccording to Keep America Beautiful (KAB), if all the recyclables in the U.S. waste stream were recycled, it would inject $7 billion of revenue into the U.S. economy. Additionally, the EPA states that for every 5 tons of waste sent to landfills, just one job is created. On the other hand, for every 5 tons of waste recycled or reused, up to 85 jobs are created. Numbers don’t lie—Recycling is great for the economy.
\n\n
The comprehensive state-by-state directory of recycling organizations listed below includes companies largely responsible for why recycling is thriving in America. It’s because of these organizations that curbside recycling services are on the rise in communities across the country, recycling drop-off points are common around municipalities in every state, and landfills are being closed and replaced with waste-to-energy plants or recycling facilities.
\n\n
Find your state and see what recycling initiatives are helping to shape your community’s future. Exceeding this limit could damage the truck and/or cause unsafe driving conditions.
\n\t
Landfill dump fees are charged by the ton, so to maintain a sustainable business, rental companies must set weight limits on each load.
\n
\n\n
Weight allowances vary by company but can range from 1-8 tons or more.
\n\n
In some cases, you’ll be offered an unlimited weight allowance but you must still abide by the rules of loading the dumpster to a specified height limit and never exceeding the top rim of the container.
\n\n
Either way, not following your rental agreement terms can make you incur overage fees that increase the price of your final bill.
\n\n
\n
TIP: Be particularly careful of exceeding the weight allowance when loading heavy debris, such as concrete, dirt, or roofing shingles. Mixing trash and debris into a clean-loaded dumpster – “clean loads” are dumpsters filled with only one type of debris, such as concrete – could result in the driver not hauling away the container from the job site.
\n\t
Something is blocking access to the dumpster. For example, a car is in the way. Be sure the truck driver has plenty of access to the dumpster during the scheduled pickup time.
\n
\n\n
These can become expensive mistakes on the part of the customer.
\n\n
Even though the driver doesn’t haul away the dumpster, the customer is usually charged a “trip fee” for driving out to the site.
\n\n
The trip fee covers the time and fuel involved in the pick-up.
\n\n
These fees vary, but you can expect to pay in the neighborhood of $75 to $150 each time the driver comes out.
\n\n

\n\n
How to Avoid Trip Fees
\n\n

\n\n
Here are few tips to help avoid trip charges, or at least resolve the issue so the driver can ultimately haul the dumpster off the site:
\n\n
\n\t
Have the dumpster debris loaded below the top of the container. Most municipalities require this for safety purposes during the transport of the container.
\n\t
Don’t mix trash and other wastes in with clean-loaded containers. If trash did somehow get mixed in, remove it.
\n\t
Likewise, remove any hazardous wastes that may have gotten mixed into the load.
\n\t
If the driver can’t lift the container due to weight, remove some of the debris to accommodate the weight limits of the truck.
\n
\n\n

\n\n
Fees May Vary Based on Location
\n\n
There are “distance fees” applicable in most cases to cover the dumpster provider’s fuel costs and driving time.
\n\n
This fee should be included in your initial dumpster quote, but it never hurts to double-check.
\n\n
If you live in close proximity to the rental company, these fees will generally not apply.
\n\n
By choosing a dumpster rental company within close proximity of your home or job site, you may be able to reduce or eliminate this fee and save some money on the rental.
\n\n
Get quotes from at least 2-3 dumpster companies to get the best pricing.
\n\n
<a id='what's included in a quote' name='what's included in a quote'>
\n\n
What’s Included in a Quote?
\n\n
Rental fees are not always moved to a different location on your property, a “move fee” (similar to a trip fee) may be added to your bill.
\n\n
This fee varies but it generally about the same cost as a trip charge.
\n\n
Expect to pay anywhere from $50 to $150 for a move fee.
\n\n
This additional cost will apply in cases where the dumpster needs to be moved due to improperly placing the container in the public right-of-way without properly obtaining a permit from the city.
\n\n
Remember, it’s ultimately the customer’s responsibility to meet all permitting requirements as the property or business owner.
\n\n
Dumpster companies will oftentimes help customers in obtaining these permits or at least point you in the right direction.
\n\n
<a id='damage to customer’s property, although they may be insured for such damage.
\n\n
As the customer, it’s best that you inquire about this before you rent the dumpster and/or read the fine print on the rental agreement.
\n\n
Some rental companies place boards beneath the dumpster to help prevent surface damage while others will do so upon request – always ask!
\n\n
\n
TIP: If driveway or yard damage is a major concern, opt for a trailer-style dumpster that is on rubber ultimately increase the cost of the rental.
\n\n
Two cases where rain and snow would impact the cost of the dumpster rental includes:
\n\n
\n\t
When the rental fee is based on the total weight of the load rather than a flat-rate fee.
\n\t
If the weight of the load exceeds the weight allowance and overage charges are added to the bill.
\n
\n\n
Dumpster rental companies are not responsible for the additional weight resulting from rain or snow saturation.
\n\n
They have to pay extra dump fees at the landfill for the additional weight and thus, pass these costs onto the customer.
\n\n
\n
TIP: Place a tarp, plastic, or sheets of plywood over the dumpster during rain or snowstorms to reduce the amount of moisture a roll-off container isn’t a difficult or confusing process, but be sure to follow the rental company’s terms of service to avoid any hiccups along the way.
\n\n
The tips and information above is We’re talking about the large-scale waste-to-energy facilities located across the country.
\n\n\n
There are currently fewer than 100 of these waste-to-energy plants in the U.S., and while these facilities are able to generate a huge amount of electricity from burning trash, the U.S. still ranks well below other countries in terms of how much trash we burn for electricity.
\n\n
1972 was the year, St. Louis was the city -- the first-ever trash incineration facility was launched in the United States. These waste-to-energy plants became popular, and by 1991 there were 171 garbage incinerators nationwide.
\n\n
\n
FIND: Waste Container Rental Companies in St. Louis
\n
\n\n
This number has fallen to around 90 due to the substantially higher cost compared to landfilling and environmental concerns over burning trash and what it does to air quality.
\n\n
EPA regulations are strict when it comes to trash incineration; hence the expensive price tag associated with building and running this type of facility. According to the Sustainable Cities Institute, a trash incineration plant can cost as much as $280 million to build, which is at least two or three times the cost of building and operating a landfill.
\n\n
Modern garbage incinerating plants take great care in removing harmful toxic chemicals using multiple layers of filtering technology to “catch” as much of the bad stuff as possible. However, the average incineration plant still produces more CO2 per megawatt of power generated compared to traditional power plants (i.e., coal, natural gas, oil-fired).
\n\n
Despite the increased cost and environmental concerns, trash incineration plants do have their benefits. The biggest benefit being the fact it diverts millions of tons of trash from landfills and turns the garbage into electricity.
\n\n
The worldwide leader in trash incineration is Denmark which burns 54 percent of its garbage, according to the U.S. Census. The U.S. burns about 14 percent of its trash generated each year, which equates to about 19 billion kilowatt hours of electricity.
\n\n
The U.S. uses about 4 Trillion kilowatt hours of electricity per year. It also helps keep about 35 million tons of trash out of landfills. So while there are pros and cons of garbage incineration, the pros are beginning to outweigh the cons as the technology advances.
\n","teaser":"
14% of the trash generated in the U.S. is burned at trash incineration facilities, generating 19 billion kWh of electricity and keeping millions of tons of garbage from entering landfills.
\r\n","changed":"2021-06-05T01:51:44+00:00"}],"code":"junk-removal","icons":[],"env":{"domain":"https://hometownstaticsites.z19.web.core.windows.net","site":"dumpster","service":" https://api-bookable-dev.azurewebsites.net","build":"nearmePages"},"project_types":[{"name":"Appliance Removal","drupal_internal__id":540,"title":"Appliance Removal Near You","subtitle":"Find the right company to remove appliances","faq":{"value":"
Who should I hire to help with my appliance removal?
\r\n\r\n
Hiring a local junk removal company to assist with your appliance removal project is almost always the safest option.
