Commercial Waste Dumpsters
What sizes do front load dumpsters come in and how do I know what size my business needs?
Commercial front load dumpsters come in a range of different sizes, including 2 yard, 3 yard, 4 yard, 6 yard, and 8 yard.
These containers can usually be used for garbage or recycling depending on your area and service provider.
If you are a new business and are unsure just how much garbage or recycling your company will be accumulating, here is a few helpful tips:
- 2 yard - great for small companies, restaurants, retail stores with 20 employees or less
- 4 yard - great for slightly larger companies such as office buildings, restaurants, etc. with under 100 employees
- 6 yard - great for larger stores or businesses, clinics, office buildings, apartments with under 250 residents or employees
- 8 yard - great for larger facilities and businesses with under 500 employees or residents
Keep in mind that the terms of your contract will determine the frequency of pick up which can be daily, weekly, bi-weekly or monthly.
I just opened a new business and have never signed a commercial waste contract before, how does it work?
When signing on with a commercial waste hauler, it can be confusing as to if you are choosing the right company and contract.
Usually, cities do not have franchised haulers for commercial waste removal, so that means you will be in the market for a private hauler that offers commercial services.
It is always a good idea to get a few quotes from local or national haulers before signing a contract for any length of time.
A few of the major national players in the commercial waste industry are Republic Services, Waste Management, and Advanced Disposal to name a few. Yes, these folks can handle massive amounts of clients, but they may not give you the personal attention you may need.
A private, local hauler may be a great option for customized care, open communication, and contract negotiation.
Negotiate. Negotiate. Negotiate. Commercial waste management is a game of negotiation for the price and length of the contract.
Try to sign the shortest contract with the best local company at a reasonable rate.
A short contract allows you to get familiar with the company and decide if you want to stay on board long-term or find another hauler.
Determine how often your dumpster will need to be emptied. This will be determined by the amount of trash consumed and pick up guidelines of the hauler.
Not sure? Let your chosen hauler know and they can help you nail down a timeline that will work best.
Be sure to ask about recycling in your area and if your contract would include recycling pick up, and if single-stream or source-separated is available.
Some cities do not mandate recycling and are not always offered with a waste contract.
